The year 2009 introduced the potential use of micromechanical signal processors to make possible a physical spectrum sensing cognitive radio, which would then drive high-Q resonator research of years to come. It was also the advent of micromechanical displacement amplifier circuits, using coupled slotted resonators or unbalanced resonator arrays, which years later played key roles in optomechanical oscillators and all-mechanical resoswitch-based communication receivers. Finally, cryogenic measurements of polysilicon micromechanical resonators done this year revealed Q‘s >350,000 at very low temperatures.
