Exams for Ma 128a - Numerical Analysis - Spring 2002

  • Sample Midterm: I gave this midterm the last time I taught this course. I will post the answers by March 19, to give you time to think about them without answers. The real midterm will be open book and open notes like the sample midterm, and cover roughly the same material: zero-finding algorithms, error analysis and computer arithmetic, polynomial approximation, and numerical differentiation. However, the last question on the sample midterm, which asks about when Taylor's Theorem converges, will be changed significantly to ask about material more directly related to polynomial approximation techniques taught in class, not about Taylor's theorem.

  • Sample Final: I gave this final the last time I taught this course. I will post the answers by May 17, to give you time to think about them without answers. The real final will be open book and open notes like the sample final, and cover the entire semester, with an emphasis on material since the midterm (integration, ODEs, and linear algebra).
