Preparation:  T-Splines and T-NURCCs by T. Sederberg at al.

Warm-up Questions:

What are the novel contributions from a designer's point of view ?

What can you do with  T-splines / T-NURCCs that you could not do before ?

Discuss these questions with your neighbors.

Paper Presentation  by Toby Mitchell

T-Splines and T-NURCCs by T. Sederberg at al.

Test-questions:

What is a local knot insertion ?  What are the requirements on the surroundings to make this possible ?

What is a "standard" T-spline ?  What are its "building blocks"?

Why would one want to render a T-spline as a set of B
é
zier patches ?  How big are those patches ?

What construction motivated the creation of
T-splines ?  How do T-splines solve the original problem ?
Do you foresee any user-interface issues in those tasks ?

What is a T-NURCC ?  What can it do that a Catmull-Clark subdivision surface cannot do ?

Reading Assignments:

Creating Generative Models from Range Images

Hierarchical Mesh Decomposition using Fuzzy Clustering and Cuts

Programming Assignment:

It is time to wrap up your genus-4 texture mapping assignment. Show me what you have been able to accomplish.
Here are some results I have received so far ...
If you can tell where the triangle boundaries are, then the real design objective has not been reached yet.

COURSE PROJECTS:

Acquire background information, plan your path of implementation, try to get some quick and dirty tests going ...
and always keep the overall schedule in mind!
