This data shows one view of the predicted investment in silicon manufacturing plant to the end of this decade. These are large investments and represent a major commitment on the part of those making such investments. The motivation of the companies providing such capability is to keep the fabrication facilities (fabs) filled at all costs. These investments will increasingly homogenize the characteristics of the silicon wafers produced, leading to a small set of very standard processes, which we refer to as COTS Silicon or COTS-MOS.
