Lecture #22 -- Monday, Nov. 14, 2011

Discussion of your ideas about a modular "curved-surface" tile.

Some evaluation questions concerning your proposed systems:

1.)  How many different components make up your system ?

2.)  Are all of them injection-moldable with a simple 2-part mold ?

3.)  Can your system represent self-intersecting surfaces ?

4.)  How many components are needed (roughly) to represent the following surfaces:

a torus,                    double torus,          genus 3 surface,       Klein bottle,     Figure-8 Klein bottle.

Proposed concepts by:   Team S;   Team R;   Team T;   Team P;   Team Q.

Paper Presentation by:  Brandon Wang

DT11:  Ma et al: "Discrete Element Textures"

Future Paper Presentations . . .

Presentations should last about 20-25 minutes -- if there were no interruptions or questions.

Assignment #9 - Phase 2:  Develop one workable idea for a tiling system to prototype "curved" surfaces.

Teams:  Send me your refined ideas by Wednesday, Nov 16, 2pm.

The next phase will be to create a geometry description of the mold of your chosen tile.
