Preparation
- Look at some of the frieze references and pictures in Lecture #5.
- Determine the symmetries of the objects you encounter in your daily life.
- Think about: -- Why does an ordinary wall mirror reverse left and right, but not up and down ??
Why are we discussing symmetry in this course ?
Discussion of Assignment #3: Design Planning
The design of the spoon actually has a lot of relevance for the design of a bell in A#4.
The second assignment demands some "out of the box" thinking.
If I had asked for "a polyhedral object with N stable faces ..."
would that have made the design easier ?
Brain teaser: is it possible to make a polyhedral object of uniform density
with only ONE stable face ?
Suggestions for Assignment #4: Making a Bell
Bells from around the world.
Some possible approaches to composing a Bell shape.
Symmetries of 3D Objects (cont.)
