• One of first 20 recipients of a David and Lucile Packard Foundation Fellowship in 1988.
• Received the ACM doctoral dissertation award in 1987 for Ph.D. thesis entitled ``The Complexity of Robot Motion Planning''.
• Shared the Machtey award for best paper by a student or students at IEEE FOCS (Foundations of Computer Science) conference 1987.
• Received a Presidential Young Investigator Grant in 1989.
• ICL European Artificial Intelligence prize for best paper in robotics at ECAI-84 conference.
