I don't know about anyone else, but DMARC, DKIM & SPF don't seem to be donig much to curb spam at all. I've been seeing an inrease in spam recently, because they're all coming through from "legitimate" senders now. I've got far more spam showing in the spam boxes of my "publicly known" emails and far more spam showing up in my inbox recently (Sept. 2024) My old email from the 90s used to just get around 30 spam messages each month, but now it's over 400. My inbox was originally getting 1 or 2 each month, but it's now about half a dozen each week and I keep marking them as spam. None of my "hidden" emails are getting any spam at all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I see so many sites claiming the DMARC, DKIM, & SPF are there to help reduce spam. I don't think these people actually understand what spam or email service actually is and what these protocols are actually for. They don't actually do much to curb spam. There's still a lot of spam. They just make sure that the sender is legitimate and not a relay. It's my personal opinion that this entire construct is created to maintain an oligarchy of existing corporate email control and not really about spam at all. What I see is that it makes it more difficult for a small business to set up email. They need someone with slightly more expertise. It used to be much easier to set up email. But with the amount of spam, SpamAssassin and ClamAV are insufficient to block spam. People need to now incorporate 3rd Party spam blocking services such as ProofPoint to block spam. Since it's 3rd party already, many companies are now going straight to Google, Yahoo and Microsoft for hosting email. It seems that DMARC, DKIM, & SPF really help force people to choose established corporate mail services. It's almost as if that's wha it's really for, at least circumstantially.
