Geometric Modeling at UC Berkeley

In the Computer Science Division, the following projects currently relate to geometric modeling:

UC Berkeley RacerX Project

Research toward CAD systems that will automate shape synthesis for mechanical parts. The CAD system user inputs high-level features and global part attributes and the program automatically creates a corresponding part geometry.

Freeform Design and Animation with Triangular Splines

We are developing a 3D modeling system based on triangular Bezier splines which will allow us to create arbitrary shaped objects using an accurate Mathematical representation. These objects can be used in physical based simulation, and animation.

Techniques for Manipulating Surfaces of Arbitrary Topological Type

Research into constructing smooth surfaces that approximate or interpolate a control mesh of arbitrary topological type (Mark Halstead, Ph.D. thesis).
