The TETRAHEDRON is the simplest of the Platonic solids, and often stands as an icon for geometry and symmetry. But the fact that its edges are curved outward implies outward motion and growth, it thus may symbolize the inflationary expansion of our universe at a very early stage. The triangle and the tetrahedron are also important engineering elements in building light-weight but stable assemblies. The structure of the edges of this tetrahedral sculpture is also reminiscent of engineering trusses that maximize stability for minimal weight. However, since these “trusses” are all formed from negatively curved minimal surface elements, as one would find in soap-films suspended in wire-frames, this sculpture also has some “organic” qualities. Overall it approximates the shape of a simple virus; and the twisted edges are reminiscent of strands of DNA. Thus, this form is at the junction of the mechanical and the organic domains and it represents the very small world of molecules and viruses as well as the very large domain of the expanding universe. Somehow the name “Star-Seed” popped into my head… More figures showing this design from different angles have been added. There are also pictures of "Music of the Spheres" from different angles, see "mos...".
