REMOTE MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY

Techniques involve insertion of instruments and viewing equipment into the body through natural orifice or punctures created by the surgeon.


Main advantage: rapid patient recovery, but disadvantage associated with sensory input to surgeon only available through a single video image


Project Goal: Develop improved tools for endoscopic manipulation, sensing, and human interfaces for a teleoperative surgical workstation.
