4. RECOMMENDATIONS

Given the expertise represented at the workshop, our recommendations focus on research opportunities at the intersection of information technology, physical spaces, and work effectiveness for both the individual and the group. In Section 4.1, we describe specific research challenges in each of these areas. Section 4.2 articulates five recommendations for research at the intersection of these disciplines:

Recommendation #1: Create a High Quality, Publicly Accessible Repository of Knowledge about Workspace Effectiveness;

Recommendation #2: Perform Rigorous Human Centered Design Studies and Experiments;

Recommendation #3: Investigate the Interplay of Building and Information Technologies;

Recommendation #4: Develop Testbeds to Demonstrate the Technologies for Flexible People-Oriented Workspaces;

Recommendation #5: Develop Strategies that Encourage a Focus on Life-Cycle Rather than First Cost by Building Owners.
