Session Management Layer
This layer provides applications-independent session mechanisms.
One example of a very useful session level mechanism is a message-oriented
interface built on top of a single TCP connection. Without such a capability,
applications like the World Wide Web that use TCP but need a message-oriented
interface are forced to use a separate TCP connection for each message.
The inefficiencies of the standard approaches are considerable.
