Conceptual Layered Architecture

This figure provides an initial conceptual architecture for the wireless overlay internetworking and mobile applications support services architecture to be pursued in the proposed research. Although the functions are arrayed in layers, we do not believe that a strictly layered architecture will be possible. For example, applications support is likely to need hooks into the transport and network layers. The final architecture, and its detailed protocols and interface specifications, will be developed as the main product of the research. Working bottom up, the layers and the functionality they provide are:
