That morning Don and Great Dave went golfing
at De
Laveaga.
Great-Grandma Patterson scored a hole-in-one at the 8th
hole, the
second in his life. He bought a round of banana splits at Marianne's:
where else would Pattersons celebrate?
This was a big ship: 65-foot ship, with a
20-foot beam, and weighed
18.6 long
tons. (In case you were wondering, a long ton equals 2240 pounds.) It
was so large because Jack O’Neill (the founder of O'Neills) would go
hot air ballooning from boat! The mast could be lowered to accommodate
the hot air balloon, and the boat would then serve as the chase vehicle
while he floated about the bay.
Perhaps the
most fun for us was the trampoline between the two hulls. We took turns
sitting on it,
laying on it, and walking like Charlie Chaplin on it.
For Don and Pat it was their first time on a
sailboat, and we all enjoyed it. Here is our sailing photo album.
Linda, Lloyd, Laura, and Lyle returned home,
leaving us with
11 Pattersons and 1 dog.
