Six hardy fisherpeople--Alissa, Don, Paul, John, Great Dave,
and plain Dave--boarded The Bequia at
5:30 A.M. Since salmon were sparse and it is early for albacore and it
was the first day of ling cod season, we went after ling cod. They were
off the coast near Ano Nuevo, the home
of the seal elephants. Most of us slept for the one hour boat ride to the
spot, where we found many other boats. These are bottom fish, which means
we need to fish near the bottom, which is where the rocks live. Sometimes
we hooked ling cod, sometimes we
caught small fish, sometimes we caught
litte things that lived on rocks,
sometimes we caughted bigger things
that lived on rocks, and often we caught rocks. We fed the rocks all
the tackle and bait that the deckhand Tim brought. Before we ran
out, we caught 30 fish, including 7 ling
cod and several of the vermillion fish.
Here is a photo album of fishing.
Since pottery painting was so fun and the Greenlunds just missed making it there, we made a second trip to the Petroglygh at a more reasonable hour. Car problems forced Pat and Sue to make more pottery in addition to Laura and Linda.
Hawaiian and Tahiatian dance lessons were in the afternoon. Girls of all ages (and species) learned to tell stories with their dance moves. Here is the hula photo album.
At dinner we honored seveal of the Patterson clan:
