Patterson Reunion Monday June 30

Starting at 8 AM, seven Patterson went for surfing lessons, including two first timers: Linda and Mike. The pros from last year were Alissa, Brian, John, and Paul. Our instructor wondered whether they had been surfing since last year, as they seemed to not miss a step. They got so good that they started horsing around on the boards. Here is the before picture, with the boys pushing each other while their cousin Mike is one the wave and Aunt Linda is watching, and here is the after picture.

Dave had a couple of lessons last year, and was able to catch some waves. Since his problems at surfing last year inspired him to lose weight, it was gratifying to see that its easier to catch waves if you shed 25 pounds.

Mike picked up surfing quickly. But the star was Linda, who consistently stood up and road all the way in. She took to surfing like a seal to water. The hard part for her was stopping rather than starting, and she bruised her backside after jumping off the board.

We quite were tired by the end of the lesson, but happily posed for a group picture.

Here is our photo album from surfing.

Despite strong suggestions from his wife Lucie, without bothering to make reservations Great Dave and his son Don headed off to the Boulder Creek Golf Course. They were suprised to find two empty buses in the parking lot. The passengers were on the course, and the pair couldn't play for 4 hours. They headed to the Scott's Valley Garden Valley 9 Hole course, which is probably the easiest golf course they had ever played. The signed up for evening golf was at Delavega, since they hadn't really played yet. They said they would meet us at the beach campfire that evening, despite a 5:45 PM tee time.

That afternoon a large group went to the Petroglphy and painted their own pottery. The results were imaginative and colorful. A good time was had by all, and we'll do this agian in the future.

The Greenlunds arrived next. We posed for a group picture before Mike and Heather returned home.

That evening we headed to Seabright Beach for a campfire. Dinner was do it yourself hot dogs followed by S'mores. The teenagers staged a rousing beach football game. We chatted around the fire, with campfire stories as it got dark.

Every hour or so we looked for Great Dave and Don, but they didn't show up. As time passed, Lucie's label for her husband changed to from Great Dave to Good Dave, Fair Dave, Bad Dave, ... . Since we had left the house locked, we expected to see them. Some were getting sleepy, so at 10 PM we packed up go, and finally ran into the wayward Pattersons.
