I love baking. Click to show unnecessary philosophical ramblings about why. Baking can be both a science and an art. Follow a recipe carefully, step by step, with just a little common sense, and you're likely to get something at least decent. Once you get comfortable enough, you realize what rules can be bent, what changes can be safely made, and how to give recipes your own personal flare. You can start to experiment, to combine recipes, to do your own thing: to express yourself through what you bake. But if you ever spend time away from it and lose the touch a little, it's comforting to know that you can always go back to the scientific, step-by-step process.
