Striated cone hunting

This cone had been resting beneath the sand, with only its siphon and the very front end of its shell exposed. As soon as the fish in the background (juvenile Hawaiian Flagtails) had been placed in the tank, the cone emerged, ready to go fishing. At the end of its proboscis is a single radular tooth (see photograph ) that it will use to harpoon the fish. The fish will be subdued by an injection of highly toxic venom.
