In September, 1983, I submitted an abstract (for the 1984 ARO meeting) summarizing our
observations on 88 bullfrog saccular units. Although almost all of the units were broadly
tuned, one usually could identify, for each, a small frequency range over which sensitivity
was greatest We did that for 34 of the units. Subsequent experience in the Lewis Lab, with
hundreds of saccular units, suggests that the distribution we obtained with these 34 units is
thoroughly representative.
