Orchard Oriole
DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge lies along the east bank of the Missouri River, just north of
Omaha. The refuge's oxbow lake lies along the course of the river at the time the boundary was
established between Iowa and Nebraska. Thus, on the east side of the Missouri, lying between the
lake and the river, is a small piece of Nebraska. This is a very good place to bird. In a large
meadow near its eastern edge, Dickcissels and Orchard Orioles could be photographed easily from
the car.
