Most of the following photographs were taken on three-week, April visits to Maui. A few were taken on a month-long cruise through Polynesia in October-November, 2010. For bird photography on Maui, we had four favorite spots: (1) the balcony of our condominium, (2) the neighborhood above Launiupoko Beach Park, (3)Kanaha Pond, and (4)Hosmer Grove. The condominium that we rented for many years was a second-floor unit at the ocean's edge. Looking almost straight down from the left end of the balcony, the edge of the water was about thirty feet away. From that balcony we saw turtles, whales, dolphins, manta rays, sharks, a hauled-out Monk Seal, and many birds. The location was Kahana, north of Kaanapali, south of Kapalua. Launiupoko Beach Park is between Lahaina and Olowalu. Kanaha Pond is very close to the Maui airport at Kahului. Hosmer Grove is just beyond the entry station to Haleakala National Park.
