The raw data for this graph were taken on Nov. 12, 1981 (bullfrog saccular unit 11128102).
In this case we used our B&K sweep-frequency generator to produce a slow frequency sweep at close to constant amplitude. With Mike Chin's software, the data were divided into successive segments, each covering a four-Hz band. Here is plotted the peak instantaneous spike rate for each band. The result is an estimate of the dependence of the unit's responsivenes on the stimulus frequency. Again, the stimulus was a dorsoventral vibration. This was one of the silent units (units without a spontaneous background firing rate) that we encountered. As one would expect, all such units exhibited nonlinearity at low stimulus levels. updated 07/20/07 |
