Homework exercises will reinforce the readings and lectures. Laboratory assignments will help you develop experience with the design tools, and let you experiment with the design of an actual processor.
Homework exercises and lab assignments will be typically available on Mondays, with homework exercises due at the beginning of class on Wednesday (1 or 2 weeks later). No late homeworks will be accepted. Labs will be demonstrated in Section on Monday, and reports will be due by Midnight on Mondays via the submit program.
Homework exercises will be checked and graded for completeness only --- not for content. We will have a short quiz (15 minutes) in class on homework due days to check your understanding of the homework exercises. we will take a problem, with slight modifications, from the homework set.
For the laboratory assignments, we will be using the workstations in 119 Cory Hall. However, you will also be able to login remotely. You should be able to access your home directory on any of the instructional computers, but the CAD tool will only run on the Windows 2000 workstations in 119 Cory Hall. Although the freedom to work outside the lab is valuable, so is the collective environment of the lab, so we encourage you to do some of each.
Final projects will be presented to the course staff at the end of the term, with a written project due the following week.
Consult the class schedule for due dates of homework exercises, labs, and projects.
There will be two midterm exams covering the material from the readings
and class---and no final. They will be given over a 3-hour period in the
evening to reduce time pressure: consult the class schedule to see the
dates, times, and locations.
