A Distributed Task Queue for Load Balancing on the CM5 (Draft)

Abstract:

We present a distributed task queue for dynamic load balancing on the CM5 multiprocessor. The task queue, though physically distributed among a group of processors, provides a shared programming abstraction for allocating and scheduling tasks. In addition to dynamic load balancing, the task queue also supports automatic termination detection. We discuss the functionality and interface of the task queue, sketch the design trade-offs, and describe the main modules of its implementation.
