Getting Involved at Berkeley

Berkeley students

Graduate students: If you would like to learn about my group's research, you can have a look at some of the publications on my web page as well as our current research directions. If you would like to learn more, feel free to email to set up a meeting to chat.

Undergraduate students:
Important: I only get undergraduates involved who are 100 percent available for full-time research this coming summer.
Important: If you are torn between pursuing an industry internship or research for summer, in my experience an industry internship is generally the right choice. If during the internship you realize you really wish you were doing research, start studying more AI and do some AI side projects in your spare time from your internship and reach out in mid August with an eye towards the following Fall, Spring, and (required!) Summer.
After having read above important information, if still interested, please email me your resume, your (unofficial) transcript, and 2 paragraphs on why you want to get involved. As a general guideline: while there are no hard specs, your chances of being able to get involved are higher the more of the following hold true: You have contributed to a substantial project in the past (e.g., prior work experience, or perhaps some large personal projects); You have a GPA of 3.8 or higher; You have done particularly well in some particularly hard classes; You are able to commit 15+ hours/week during the semester in addition to full-time this coming summer; You have a strong background in computer science (and ideally also a good amount of math). Make sure to mark in your email to me that you will be available for full-time research this coming summer.

Outside students

If you want to become a Ph.D. student in my group, you should apply through the EECS Ph.D. admissions process: EECS graduate admissions. I very much look forward to hearing from you __after__ you have been admitted. Best of luck with your applications!

If you are looking to get involved as a post-doc, send me an email with a brief description of your past research and your interest for the future and please include your resume.
