Tentative Projects

These are tentative projects and we reserve the right to change them at any time.

For the most part, students will be broken up into three groups and each of the groups will explore and work with one project at a time. Then the groups will rotate, so that everyone experiences every system.

VRML and Dimension-X's Liquid Reality

We will use Liquid Reality library and Editor (written in Java) to view and create VRML worlds. We will explore writing custom nodes, creating interactive worlds and may write editor tools to stick into the plugin architecture. Since everything is Java-based, we will be able to use virtually any networked machine for this. Students will be able to work at home if they so desire, or they can come in and use our Apple Macintosh 8500 machines which will be in 111 Cory.

SGI's Performer

We will use SGI's Performer along with 3D devices (Head Mounted Display, spaceball) to build and explore interactive virtual worlds. These projects will be completed on the SGI Indy machines in 349 Soda and on an Indigo-2 machine in 544 Soda and one in 486 Minor.

Sense-8's WorldUp® and WorldToolKit®

We will explore the power of WorldToolKit® and World Up® and build interactive virtual worlds. These projects will be completed on the 10 Intel Pentium Pro workstations with Intergraph boards in 111 Cory.
